Lineage shows how data flows through your ecosystem. Trace datasources to datasets, datasets to their fields, and fields through transformations to trace data flow, spot dependencies, and identify quality or compliance risks.
To view lineage for an asset:

- Assess how changes affect downstream assets
- Ensure regulatory compliance
- Evaluate data impact across your organization
Add manual lineage relationships
Manually add lineage relationships at the datasource, dataset,
and field levels to reflect accurate data flow and dependencies across
your organization.
- Datasource level: Relationships affect the entire datasource, which may include multiple datasets and fields. Use this level to define how different datasources relate to each other through common keys or identifiers.
- Dataset level: Relationships affect only the datasets involved, allowing you to create relationships specific to those datasets' context. This level helps you connect datasets that share common fields or attributes, enabling combined analyses or reports.
- Field level: Relationships affect only the specific fields
involved in the relationship. This is the most granular level of
data management, giving you precise control over how data
interconnects (for example, joining datasets using a common field
such as
IDorName).
The selected asset is added to the canvas in the chosen direction.
Review the lineage diagram to ensure that the new relationship is
accurately represented. You should see a line connecting the original
asset to the newly added asset.
