Before relationships can be created between individual assets, a user with administrator permissions must first create the relevant relationship types. Administrators can define a set of relationship types that are specific to the requirements of your organization.

Note: As a user, you have the privileges to view and edit configuration of relationships.

Create a relationship type

  1. Navigate to Configuration > Governance > Relationships.
  2. Click Create Relationship and a Create Relationship Type dialog will appear.
  3. Select a Subject, Predicate and Object from their respective drop-downs.
  4. Choose and map the appropriate options for Subject Cardinality to Object Cardinality. Choose from One for a single instance or Many for multiple instances.
  5. Click Create Relationship Type to save the new relationship to the list.
Note:
  • Subject should always be the higher-level item in the relationship, while Object is the lower-level item in the relationship. This will impact how sourcing and synonym inheritance works, as the Object is what you are sourcing as well as where synonyms defined on the relationship will also appear.
  • Cardinality represents the number of instances of one entity that can be associated with the number of instances of another entity. Possible combinations can be One to One,One to Many, Many to One, or Many to Many.

To view existing relationships, navigate to Configuration > Governance > Relationships and the relationship list view will appear. Here you can search for the desired relationship, view all the Subject, associated Predicate, and Object. The column Relationships Exist will display a True or a False value that will help you see if a relationship exists between the entities. You can also click the row of the relationship for which you want to see the details and the Information panel will open on the right.

These menu options are available when you click the ellipsis next to a subject name in the relationships list view:
  • View Information: Opens the Information panel on the right.
  • Open: Opens the Details tab in the current tab in browser.
  • Open in New Tab: Opens the Details tab in a new tab in browser.

Edit a relationship type

  1. Navigate to Configuration > Governance > Relationships.
  2. In the relationships list view, click the ellipsis next to a subject name and select Edit.
  3. An Edit Relationship Type dialog with existing details will appear. You can modify the cardinality of the relationship type as required and click Save.

Delete a relationship type

Warning: Ensure that you actually want to delete the relationship type. A successful deletion cannot be undone.
  1. Navigate to Configuration > Governance > Relationships.
  2. In the relationships list view, click the ellipsis next to a subject name and select Delete.
  3. A Delete Relationship Type dialog with associated details will appear. To confirm the deletion of the reference list, click Delete.

Note: If the Relationship types for an asset type, displays a True value, then Edit and Delete option for that relationship type will be disabled.
