Technical assets are the individual instances or entities that fall under technical asset types. They represent the actual software, hardware, or network components essential for IT system operation. You can create, view, and manage technical assets in the Catalog. Each technical asset is categorized under a specific asset type, allowing for detailed inventory management and oversight. By maintaining a comprehensive inventory of technical assets, organizations can conduct data quality checks, automate configuration processes, and optimize resource usage.

  1. Go to Catalog > Technical Assets to view all asset types, descriptions, and counts in list or card view.
  2. Click the arrows next to column headers to sort assets in ascending or descending order.
  3. Click Create Asset.
  4. In the Create Asset dialog, select an Asset type and complete required and optional fields. If no suitable asset type exists, contact your administrator to create one.
  5. Click Create or Create and Add Another. The system validates that key fields are unique; validation messages appear for any non-unique fields.
  6. Click a technical asset name to open its Details page with comprehensive information organized by section.
  7. Review the asset name and quality indicators at the top of the page:
    1. Data Quality score badge: Displays the data quality percentage.
    2. Governance score badge: Displays the governance percentage.
    3. Asset status badge: Shows certification status (for example, "Certified") when configured.
  8. Review the main details section, which includes:
    1. Description: Brief narrative about the asset.
    2. Asset Type: Type classification (for example, "Table").
    3. Tags: Categorization tags you can edit.
    4. Connector Tags: System-generated tags from data connectors.
    5. Datasource Type: Datasource type (for example, "Databricks").
    6. Location: Hierarchical path where the asset resides, excluding the asset itself.
  9. Explore the Fields section to view child assets and their properties:
    1. Name: Field names
    2. Location: Full hierarchical path for each field.
    3. Quality Score: Individual quality scores with color-coded badges (green for 100%, orange for lower scores).
    4. Governance Score: Individual governance scores with color-coded indicators.
    5. Storage Type: Data types (for example, decimal, string, date-time, date).
  10. Click a field name to view detailed information in a side panel.
  11. Use the search box to filter fields or click column headers to sort.
  12. Use the search bar at the top right to search the entire Catalog without leaving the asset detail page. The search bar is available on all tabs: Details, Lineage, Sample, Profile, Relationships, Rules, Scoring, Assignments, and Change History.
  13. Click Edit in the top-right corner to modify asset description, tags, and metadata.

Control asset visibility and certification

Manage asset status, customize field display, and access view, edit, or delete options for technical assets.
  1. Manage asset status and certification: Status badges display certification status (such as "Certified") only when a status value is set. Organizations control their own certification process.
    1. Set a status value to display a status badge on the asset.
    2. Use a workflow with a schedule to automatically set assets to draft status when they lack a status value. For more information, see Schedules.
    3. Implement workflows tailored to your internal certification process to control asset status transitions.
  2. Configure asset type fields for display: Customize how asset type fields appear on the Details page.
    1. Enable Display in Tab to render relation lookup fields as tabs on the asset Details page. For more information, see Relation lookup.
    2. Enable Display as Badge to show a list field value in the title bar. For more information, see List.
    3. Enable Score Display in Relation Lookup to display scores within relation lookup fields.

  3. Access asset menu options: Click the ellipsis for an asset or open its Information panel to access menu options.
    1. View Information: Opens the Information panel on the right.
    2. Open: Displays the asset Details page.
    3. Open in New Tab: Opens the Details page in a new browser tab.
    4. Edit: Opens the Edit Asset dialog to modify the asset configuration.
    5. Delete: Opens the Delete Asset dialog to remove the asset. This option appears only if you have explicit Delete permission for Technical Assets. Contact your workspace manager to request Delete permission if needed.

View change history for technical assets

A change history records all changes made to an asset and updates every couple of minutes. Access it the same way you access a technical asset: go to Catalog > Technical Assets, select the desired asset, then follow the procedures in the Change history for technical asset types topic. The system audits adding, editing, and deleting field values, as well as changes to relationships and responsibility overrides. Asset deletion cannot be viewed in change history because the change history page becomes inaccessible after deletion.
