Tags are metadata elements that label, categorize, and identify data assets within an organization. They're keywords or terms assigned to data to describe its content, context, or purpose. Tags help you retrieve and manage data by grouping similar assets together.

  1. Go to Catalog > Tags to manage your tags.
  2. To create a tag, click Create Tag to enter a Name and select a Tag Type for categorization.
  3. Click Create Tag again to save the new tag.
    Tip: You can't create a new tag with the same name as an existing tag or use the pipe symbol (|) in a tag name.
  4. Click on the tag's name to display the information panel for that specific tag, which includes the Tagged Assets tab.
    • The Tagged Assets tab shows all assets that have been assigned the selected tag.
    • This tab contains the following columns, which you can use to sort the information:
      • Asset: Lists each asset that the selected tag is assigned to.
      • Asset Type: Indicates the type of asset.
      • Tags: Displays all tags assigned to the individual asset.
      • Added By: Shows the user who added the tag.
      • Date Added: Provides the date when the tag was added.
  5. Click the ellipsis next to the tag name to view the available options:
    • Edit: Click to edit the tag details and save. The tag updates on all assets where it's used.
    • Delete: Click to delete the tag. The selected tag is removed from all assets where it was previously referenced.
  6. To merge synonymous tags into a single tag, for example, combine Investment and Investments, select the checkbox for the tags you want to merge.
  7. From the menu at the top of the page, choose Consolidate.
  8. When prompted, select the tag to keep from the table, then click Consolidate. All assets listed are tagged with the selected tag, and the other tags are deleted.
    Tip: You can also consolidate tags if you attempt to rename a tag to an existing name.

View default tags for connectors

Note: Ensure that the datasource has been re-cataloged before viewing tags.

After re-cataloging, you can view and verify how tags are applied to different asset types in the Catalog.

  1. Go to Catalog > Technical Assets.
  2. Search for an asset type and check the tags applied.
    • Example: A Database asset displays the Base Connectivity tag.
    • Example: A Stored Procedure asset displays the Advanced Connectivity tag.
  3. For assets such as a View, you may see both tags applied.
  4. To see a consolidated view of tagged assets:
    • Go to Catalog > Tags.
    • Select a tag (for example, Advanced Connectivity or Base Connectivity) to view all associated assets.

By exploring different technical assets and the Tags tab, you can quickly verify which assets fall under Base Connectivity, Advanced Connectivity, or both. This provides a clear and consolidated way to understand connectivity coverage across your cataloged assets.
