The Import feature in the Data Integrity Suite manages asset relationships. It enables you to add, update, and delete these relationships, ensuring your metadata is accurate. By using a structured template, you can define the relationships between assets, which maintains data integrity and improves operational efficiency.

Key capabilities include:

  • Template for relationship upload: You can download a pre-defined spreadsheet template to input relationship data, along with their associated assets, properties, and then easily upload it.
  • Import processing: The system validates and processes CSV/XLSX files, allowing for bulk addition, update, or deletion of relationships. It ensures that uploaded relationships are accurately persisted in the catalog and made available in the user interface (UI), maintaining data integrity and operational efficiency.
  • Monitoring and error reporting: You can track the progress of your uploads in real-time and receive detailed error reports for any issues encountered during the process.
  • Robust error handling: If any record in the uploaded file contains invalid information, that specific record will be flagged for review. Importing will continue for valid records, ensuring that you can still benefit from the successful import of correct data.

Understand relationship addition, updates, and deletions

  1. Creating new relationships:

    • When creating a new relationship, it is established between two assets. If one side of the relationship does not exist, the system will automatically generate a placeholder asset to facilitate the connection.

    • After the placeholder asset is created, it must be converted into a real asset. This typically involves providing the necessary information and attributes for the placeholder, allowing it to be fully integrated into the system as a functional asset. Once this process is completed, the relationship can be maintained with both assets actively recognized in the system.

  2. Updating existing relationships:
    • For existing relationships, the system will update them with the new information you provide in the spreadsheet template.
  3. Deleting relationships:
    • Removing relationships does not affect the associated asset fields. The system maintains the integrity of asset fields regardless of relationship deletions.

Add or update relationships

The process for importing new relationships or updating existing relationships is as follows:

  1. Navigate to Configuration > Import. This will open the interface for managing your import tasks.
  2. To start a new import, click on the Import button.
  3. Select Relationships as the Import Type.
Tip: The Columns tab in the side panel lists all the required and optional fields necessary for importing the selected relationship. When you download the spreadsheet template, these fields will appear as column headers, ensuring that your data aligns correctly for import.
  4. Choose Add/Update as the Import Action.
  5. From the drop-down menu, select the Type of relationship you wish to import. You may also include a Description.
  6. You can turn on the Trigger workflows toggle to initiate workflows associated with this relationship type.
Tip: During the import process, the system will display available workflows in the Triggered Workflows tab in the side panel. If no workflows are available, this will be indicated in the side panel, and the toggle to trigger workflows will be disabled. Click on the workflow links to view detailed information in a secondary panel, which can be closed to continue the import.
  7. Download the provided template that is designed for inputting relationship data by clicking on the Download Spreadsheet Template option. This template will ensure that your data is structured correctly for the import process. The template includes:
    • Subject Id: Source asset (either the unique ID or xref may be provided)
    • Object Id: Target asset (either the unique ID or xref may be provided)
    • Optional relationship properties as columns
Note: To ensure accuracy and avoid errors, either the unique ID or xref should be used for both Source and Target assets.
  8. Complete the template with the necessary relationship data and upload the file by either:
    1. browsing and selecting a file from your computer, or
    2. dragging and dropping your data file directly.
Tip: Ensure your file is in XLSX, XLS, or CSV format.
  9. Once the file is uploaded, the system will perform several validation checks, including:
    • File format and required fields: Ensures the uploaded file meets the necessary format and contains all required fields.
    • Asset existence: Checks if the assets referenced in the file exist. If not, placeholder assets will be created.
Warning: Each file imported is restricted to a maximum size of 100 Megabytes. Uploaded files will be retained for a duration of 90 days.
  10. If validation fails due to errors, a message will be displayed, highlighting the problematic records.
  11. Click on the View errors option or check the specific error messages for each row in the Errors tab located in the side panel.
  12. You can also re-upload only the rows that did not pass validation for correction.
  13. After finalizing the template, click on the Import button to start the process. Upon successful import, the system will display a confirmation message.
  14. Navigate back to the Import page, where you can track the progress of your import through various status indicators, including In Progress, Completed, Partial, and Failed. The system offers real-time updates throughout the import process. To see the most recent status, refresh the page.
  15. In the Import Type column, you can click the context menu next to the relationship import job to access details about the job. From there, you can view information, export records with errors for correction and re-upload, or download the original file.

Deleting relationships

To remove specific relationships, follow the same steps as outlined above, and choose Delete as the Import Action.
