You can extend technical asset types that were automatically created by connectors by adding custom fields to capture additional metadata not provided by the connector. Custom fields let you add organization-specific information while preserving the core structure from your datasources.
Connector-harvested technical asset types provide metadata from your datasources. Adding custom fields allows you to:
- Capture business context for technical assets
- Add governance and compliance information
- Include organization-specific classifications
Go to . In the Containment or Inheritance hierarchy view, select the connector-harvested asset type you want to manage.
The custom field is added to the connector-harvested asset type and is available for all assets of that type. For example, for a database table asset type you might add:
- Data Owner: An asset reference field linking to Person assets.
- Refresh Frequency: A text field documenting how often the data is updated.
- Retention Period: A text field describing data retention requirements.
To modify existing fields on the asset type:
- The asset type definition cannot be deleted but can be edited.
- Fields created by the connector cannot be deleted.
- To rearrange fields, drag a field to a new position, or select Move Up or Move Down from the field's action menu. The field order determines how they appear on the asset details page.
- To edit display settings, click the ellipsis next to
the field and select Edit. In the
Edit Field dialog, you can modify
Category, Field Description, and display options such as
Listable, Column Width, Show in Details Tab, Display in
Column, Show if Empty, and Persist in Filters. Note: Core field properties such as name, type, and requirement settings cannot be modified for connector-harvested fields.
Click Save to apply all changes to the asset type.
