You can create, edit, and delete domain assets to organize and group business and technical assets under hierarchical domain structures. Each domain can have its own properties and a designated responsible party.

Limited Availability: This feature is currently available only in select workspaces and might be subject to change before general availability.
You can create root-level domains or child domains under existing parent domains.
  1. Go to Governance > Domains.
  2. The list of domain assets displays where you can view the Name, and Description for each domain.
  3. When you open a domain, the Details page provides a centralized location to view and manage all aspects of the domain, including child domains, allowing you to organize your data governance structure efficiently.
  4. Click Create Domain to create a new root-level domain asset.
  5. In the Create Asset dialog, enter a suitable name for the domain.
The name must be unique within your system. The system validates that key fields used to identify this asset are unique.
  6. Optionally, enter a description and add tags to categorize the domain.
  7. Click Create Domain
The system validates the domain creation. If the name is not unique, an invalid field message displays. Once the asset is created, it opens automatically where you can view its details.

The domain is created and available in the Domains list. You can now assign assets to this domain or create child domains under it.

After creating a domain, you can:

  • Create child domains under the domain
  • Group business and technical assets with the domain.
  • Edit or delete the domain as needed

Edit a domain

You can modify any domain properties after creation to reflect changes in your organization or governance requirements.
  1. Go to Governance > Domains.
  2. Locate the domain you want to edit in the domain list.
  3. Click the ellipsis for the domain and select Edit.
The Edit Asset dialog opens, displaying the current domain properties.
  4. Modify the domain properties as needed:
    • Update the domain name
    • Modify the description
    • Add or remove tags
  5. Click Save to apply the changes. The domain properties are updated in the system.

The domain properties are updated and the changes take effect immediately in the system.

After editing a domain, you can:

  • Verify the changes in the domain list
  • Update related assets or child domains if necessary

Delete a domain

You can delete a domain from the system when it is no longer needed. Deleting a domain removes all associated ownership assignments and relationships.

Warning: Deleting a domain is a permanent action. Before deleting a domain, ensure that all related assets and child domains have been properly reassigned or archived. Child domains will also be deleted when their parent domain is deleted.

To delete a domain:

  1. Go to Governance > Domains.
  2. Locate the domain in the list and select the context menu option.
  3. Select Delete from the context menu.
  4. Confirm the deletion when prompted. The system may require confirmation to prevent accidental deletion.

The domain is permanently deleted from the system. All ownership assignments associated with the domain are removed. If the domain had child domains, they are also deleted. Related assets lose their ownership information inherited from the deleted domain.

After deleting a domain, you can:

  • Verify the deletion in the domain list
  • Update related assets or child domains if necessary
