You can edit existing custom semantic types to update their
properties, matching rules, and configurations. You can also delete
custom semantic types when they are no longer required.
-
Go to .
The Semantic Types list displays all available semantic
types in your workspace.
-
Locate the semantic type you want to edit or delete in the
list.
-
You can use the search field or filter options to find
specific semantic types by name, base type, or source.
-
Click the ellipsis next to the semantic type name.
-
A context menu appears with available actions for that
semantic type.
-
Select Edit to modify the semantic
type properties. The Edit Semantic
Type dialog opens, displaying all
configurable properties.
-
Modify any of the following properties as
needed:
- Name: The display
name of the semantic type
- Qualifier: The unique
identifier for the semantic type
- Description: Optional
details about the semantic type's
purpose
- Threshold: The
confidence level required for matching
(0-100%)
- Priority: The
priority ranking when multiple semantic
types match
- Base data type: The
underlying data type (such as String, Long,
Double)
- Asset Match Criteria:
The matching rules including regex patterns
and match type
-
To test your regex pattern, enter a sample data
value in the Test a data
value field and click
Test.
The system validates your pattern against the
sample data and displays the result.
-
Click Save Changes to apply
your modifications.
-
Click Cancel to discard your
changes and close the dialog.
Note: Built-in semantic types have
limited editing capabilities. You can only modify the
name, description, and display properties. The matching
rules and base data type for built-in types cannot be
changed.
-
To delete a semantic type, click the ellipsis next
to the semantic type name and select
Delete.
-
A confirmation dialog appears with important
information about the deletion.
-
Review the warning message carefully:
- If the semantic type is currently assigned
to assets, the system displays the number of
assets that will be unassigned.
- All information about the semantic type will
be permanently deleted.
-
Click Delete to confirm the
deletion, or click Cancel to
stop.
Warning: Only custom
semantic types can be deleted. Built-in semantic types
are protected and cannot be removed from your workspace.
If you attempt to delete a semantic type that is
assigned to assets, those assets will be unassigned from
the semantic type. This action cannot be undone.
You have successfully edited or deleted the semantic type.
Changes take effect immediately and are applied to future
profiling and classification operations.
After editing or deleting semantic types, consider the
following:
- Verify that your changes do not negatively impact existing
data classifications.
- Re-run profiling operations if you modified matching rules
to ensure accurate classification.
- Review assets that were unassigned from deleted semantic
types and reassign them if necessary.
