Access Catalog dashboard metrics to understand catalog activity, assess coverage, identify gaps, and see how assets are distributed across your catalog.

The Catalog Overview dashboard provides a consolidated view of catalog activity, coverage, and composition. Monitor contribution and engagement trends, identify coverage gaps, and understand the size and makeup of your catalog across business and technical assets, platforms, data sources, asset types, and domains.

The dashboard is organized into four areas:

  • Summary cards: Quick-reference metrics at the top provide an overview of catalog activity, coverage, risk, and total assets.
  • Adoption metrics: Detailed metrics show Contributions and Contributor Rate with breakdowns by assets, asset types, users, and activity types.
  • Coverage metrics: Metrics show Classification Coverage, Quality Coverage, Semantic Type Coverage, Profiling Coverage, and Governance Coverage.
  • Catalog Composition: Charts show the makeup of the catalog across business and technical assets, platforms, data sources, asset types, and domains.
  • Search: Search activity metrics show total search volume, top queries, search method usage, and zero-result queries that need stewardship attention.

Adoption and coverage metrics can include detailed views that provide additional breakdowns. Tables within these views are sorted by the relevant metric and show the top results. Hover over column headers to see tooltips explaining what each metric represents.

Use the metrics as follows:

Metric Usage
Contributions Track whether user engagement is increasing or decreasing over time. Rising contributions indicate growing adoption; declining contributions suggest you need to re-engage your stewardship community.
Contributor Rate Identify what percentage of your user base is actively contributing. A low rate indicates participation gaps and opportunities to expand stewardship.
Top Contributors Find your most active stewards and identify where participation gaps exist. Use this to recognize top contributors and recruit new stewards from inactive users.
Contribution Activity See what types of edits users are making, for example, adding descriptions, tags, or relationships. This shows whether stewardship effort is focused on the right activities.
Top Assets and Top Asset Types Determine where effort is concentrated and which assets or asset types need more attention. Use this to balance stewardship effort across your catalog.
Coverage metrics Spot governance gaps. Low classification or profiling coverage shows assets that need attention. Low quality coverage shows assets without quality rules applied. Low governance coverage indicates assets lacking governance scores.
Catalog Composition Understand the makeup of your catalog by comparing business and technical assets and reviewing how assets are distributed across platforms, data sources, asset types, and domains.
Search Find what people search for, compare catalog search bar and Gio search activity, and review zero-result queries by team and recommended action.
High Risk Assets Prioritize remediation efforts. Assets missing coverage across multiple dimensions pose the highest risk to data governance, so address them first.
  1. Go to Catalog > Overview.
The Overview page displays catalog activity, coverage, and composition metrics organized by metric area.
  2. Filter the dashboard by asset scope using the toggle buttons.
Select All assets to view metrics across your available catalog assets, or select CDEs only to focus on Critical Data Elements. Applicable metrics refresh to reflect your selection.
  3. Select a time period for applicable dashboard metrics.
    Select from these options:
    • 30D (default): Shows metrics for the last 30 days
    • 15D: Shows metrics for the last 15 days
    • 7D: Shows metrics for the last 7 days
    • 1D: Shows metrics for the last 24 hours
    • Custom date range: Shows metrics for the date range you select
Note: The time-period selection does not apply to Catalog Composition. Composition represents the current state of the catalog.
The applicable metrics refresh to reflect your selected time period, allowing you to analyze adoption trends across different time periods.
  4. Review the summary cards to get a quick overview of your catalog.
The summary cards provide quick-reference catalog metrics, including Total Assets. Total Assets shows the current number of catalog assets available to you and follows the CDEs only filter.
  5. Review the Contributions tile to track overall activity.
The large number displays total contribution events during your selected period. The trend indicator shows whether contributions increased or decreased compared to the previous period. Detail views show Top Assets and Top Asset Types.
  6. Review the Contributor Rate tile to measure user participation.
The percentage shows what share of your workspace users are actively contributing. The count below the percentage displays active users, such as "7 of 105 users active". Detail views show Top Contributors and Contribution Activity.
  7. Review the detailed views within adoption metrics.
The detailed views show the assets, asset types, contributors, and activity types with the most contribution events. Use column-header tooltips to confirm how event counts, distinct assets, tag additions, and trend percentages are calculated.
  8. Review the coverage metrics to assess governance readiness.
Use coverage metrics to compare classification, quality, semantic type, profiling, and governance coverage. Review high-risk assets to find assets missing coverage across multiple dimensions. Use these metrics together to prioritize stewardship effort.
  9. Review Catalog Composition to understand the makeup of your catalog.

Catalog Composition represents the current state of the catalog and provides the following views:

    View Description
Business vs. Technical Assets Shows the distribution of business and technical assets. Policies are included in the Business Assets total.
Technical Assets by Platform Shows technical assets grouped by the platform or host system where the assets reside.
Technical Assets by Datasource Shows technical assets grouped by datasource within a platform.
Business Assets by Asset Type Shows business assets grouped by asset type. Policies are included as a business asset type.
Assets by Domain Shows business and technical assets grouped by domain. Each asset is counted once. Assets without an assigned domain are included in No Domain.

Each Composition chart shows its total and provides the asset count and percentage for its categories. When there are more data sources or domains than can be displayed individually, additional categories are grouped under Other.

Note: Total Assets and Catalog Composition reflect the assets that you have permission to view.
  10. Review the Search tile and dashlet to understand search activity.
The Search tile shows total searches for the selected period and a trend compared to the previous period. In the Search dashlet, use Top Queries to review the most searched terms, Search Method to compare catalog search bar and Gio search activity, and Zero Results to identify queries that returned no results. If the selected period is earlier than the available search data, the dashlet shows when data is available from.
  11. Use the dashboard metrics to assess catalog activity, coverage, and composition.
Review adoption trends, coverage gaps, catalog composition, and search activity together to understand how the catalog is being used, where coverage is incomplete, and how assets are distributed across the catalog.
