Assign direct owners to catalog assets when one asset needs ownership that differs from domain or rule-based ownership.

You must have permission to manage the asset class before you can assign or remove direct owners.
Direct ownership applies to an individual catalog asset and takes priority over ownership assigned by rules or inherited from domains. Use it for exceptions where a specific user or group needs responsibility for one asset without changing the ownership setup for the related domain or rule.
  1. Go to Catalog and select an asset type.
  2. Select the asset name to open the asset details.
  3. On the Ownership page, select Assign Owner.
  4. In the Add Owners panel, choose the ownership type and select a user or group.
Each direct owner is assigned for one ownership type, such as Data Owner or Data Steward.
  5. Keep Apply to child assets selected to add the same direct owner to descendant assets, or clear it to update only the selected asset.
Applying ownership to child assets is additive. Existing direct owners on child assets remain in place.
  6. Select Add.
  7. To remove a direct owner, select the remove action for the owner row and confirm the removal.
Removing a direct owner removes only the direct assignment. If rule-based or domain-based ownership applies, that ownership becomes visible for the asset.
The asset details show direct and inherited owners separately, and direct owners are marked with a Direct label.
