Upgrade Continuous Replication project engines after updating the change data capture (CDC) service on the agent.

Before upgrading a project that requires a Metabase or Log Reader upgrade, prepare the project:

  1. Stop the Log Reader, if applicable.
  2. Allow the backlog to drain.
  3. Stop the pipelines
  4. Stop the project
Tip: Create a Metabase backup before starting the upgrade.

Use the Continuous Replication page to upgrade replication project engines. Projects that are not running the same Connect CDC engine version as the agent Connect CDC version show an Upgrade label. Open the label tooltip to view the target version and whether the project also requires a Metabase upgrade or Log Reader upgrade.

Warning: If the upgrade dialog shows a warning for a project, complete the Metabase or Log Reader preparation before upgrading that project. For International Business Machines (IBM) i sources, an in-place Log Reader upgrade affects all projects that use the same IBM i connection.
  1. Update the Connect CDC service on the agent.
For more information, see Update agent.
  2. Go to Integration > Continuous Replication.
  3. Select one or more projects with an Upgrade label.
  4. Select Upgrade selected.
  5. In the upgrade dialog, review the current version, target version, and upgrade status for each selected project.
  6. Start the upgrade after confirming that you have prepared projects with warnings for the required Metabase or Log Reader upgrade.
  7. Review the upgrade summary.
The upgrade is complete for successful projects unless a Metabase upgrade is still required. For failed projects, use the failure message to resolve the issue, then run the upgrade again.
The upgrade moves the selected project engines to the target version, except for projects that report a failure or still require a Metabase upgrade.

If a successful project still shows a required Metabase or Log Reader upgrade, complete the remaining upgrade work before restarting replication.

If the project requires both upgrades, upgrade the Metabase first. For more information, see Configure metabase.

For an IBM i Log Reader upgrade, choose one of these upgrade paths:

  • In-place upgrade: Upgrade the existing installation library on the IBM i server, then start the project and pipelines.
  • Separate install: Install the new Log Reader library as a fresh installation, update the IBM i connection to use the new installation library, apply configuration changes on the upgraded projects, then start the project and pipelines.
Warning: If projects that still need an upgrade use the same IBM i connection, do not apply configuration changes to those projects until you upgrade them.
