Custom fields capture additional metadata on asset types, reference lists, and relationship types. Use them to enhance your data governance, reporting, and compliance capabilities.

Add custom fields to three governance entity types:
  • Asset Types: Capture metadata on business and technical assets (such as, Database, Table, Data Field). Supports 14 field types.
  • Reference Lists: Add fields to reference list items (such as, Status, Country, Department). Reference items are displayed in the {Code} field by default. Supports 8 field types.
  • Relationship Types: Add fields to relationships between assets (such as, "depends on," "feeds into"). Supports 7 field types.
  1. Go to Configuration > Governance.
    • For asset types: Select Business Assets or Technical Assets.
    • For reference list items: Reference Lists.
    • For relationship types: Relationship Type
  2. Click the entity row to open its Information panel or click the entity name to open its Details page, then select the Fields.
  3. Click the + Create Field.
  4. Select a Field Type.

  5. Enter a unique Field Name within this entity.
    Examples: Department, CertificationStatus, DataOwner.
  6. Review the API Name which is automatically generated from the Field Name and referenced in API calls; must be unique.
    Warning: Do not use KeyPath, Path, or DisplayPath as an API Name. You cannot change an API name after saving the field.
  7. Optional: Select a Category to group related fields together on detail pages. If not assigned, the field appears in the General category.
  8. Optional: Enter a Field Description.
  9. Set Listable to True to display the field as a column in list view, or False to hide it.
    • For Asset Types only: Additional options include column width (in pixels) and sort order for list view display.

    • Sort Order example: Set Country field to sort order 1 and Town field to sort order 2. Records with the same country are then sorted by town (Boston before Chicago).

  10. Select a Requirement value:
    • Required: Must be completed in forms.
    • Key: Contains unique data distinguishing this record from all others. (Asset Types only; includes warning about changing key fields after data load.)
    • Optional: Not required.
  11. Check Show In Details Tab to display the field on the detail page and information panel.
    When checked, choose a display option:
    • Display in Column: Field appears in a column on the detail page. Multiple adjacent fields appear on the same line.
    • Display in Tab: Field appears in a tabbed view. (Available for Relation Lookup field types on Asset Types only.)
  12. Optional: For Asset Types with List field types: Enable Display as Badge
    Highlights the field (e.g., Certification Status) in the title bar on the asset details page. Only one list field per asset type can use this setting.
  13. Optional: Check Show if Empty to display the field on the detail page even if it has no value.
    By default, only fields with values are displayed.
  14. Optional: Enable Persist in Filters to display the field as a persistent filter in the list view.
  15. Click Create Field to save the field or click Add and Create Another to save this field and immediately create a new one.
Edit a field: Click the ellipsis next to the field name and select Edit. Modify the field details and click Save.
Note: Not all fields are available for edit.
Delete a field: Click the ellipsis next to the field name and select Delete. In the confirmation dialog, click Delete.
Warning: Deletion cannot be undone.
