IBM Db2 for z/OS connection enables continuous replication, facilitating real-time data transfer from Db2 databases to target systems. To configure Db2 for z/OS as a connection for continuous replication pipeline, the following fields need to be configured:
  • Connection: Specifies the name of data connection.
  • Description: Allows you to describe the purpose of the data connection.
  • Connection type: Select a connection from the dropdown list. When creating a new connection from a project, only connection types that can be used in that project type are present.
  • Configure connection for: Enables to select the replication mode: Continuous replication, Mainframe replication, or both.
Note: By default the option 'Both' is selected. To configure the connection specifically for continuous replication, select the option 'Continuous replication'.
  • Continuous replication engine: Specifies the continuous replication engine to determine how data is continuously replicated from the source to the target system.
  • Add Engine: Opens the Add runtime engine window.
    Note:
    • Only continuous replication engine can be configured.
    • When a new replication engine is added, it appears as the default option from the dropdown menu.
  • Database server hostname or IP address: Specifies the hostname or IP address associated with Db2 for z/OS database server.
  • Database: Specifies the name of database. This is a mandatory field.
  • Port number: Specifies the port number within the range of port values. The default value is 448. This is a mandatory field.
  • User name: Specifies the user ID credentials required to test the connection to the database server and data source instance.
Note: To test the connection, it is required to fill this field. The system does not save any input provided here.
  • Password: Specifies the password credentials required to test the connection to the database server and data source instance.
Note: To test the connection, it is required to fill this field. The system does not save any input provided here.
  • DBMS version: Specifies the version of the DBMS. The default value is (-).
  • JDBC driver version: Specifies the version of the JDBC driver used on the database server. The default value is (-).
  • GMT offset: Indicates the time difference, in minutes, between local time and Greenwich Mean Time (GMT). The default value is (-).
  • Server: Specifies the server name for the z/OS server.
  • Port number: Specifies the port number within the range of port values for the capture server. The default value is 2626.
  • Private key path: Specifies the location of the private key.
  • Agent: The value 'Specify' appears before fetching the list of agents from the server.
  • Specify agent: Specifies the name of agent. This is a mandatory field.
  • Job card: Identifies the job within the Operating System, in the spool, and in the scheduler. The parameters in the JOB statement help the operating system allocate the correct scheduler, necessary CPU time, and issue notifications to the user.
  • Job library:Identify the JCL DD statement specifying the LOADLIB path where DMXDC is installed on the z/OS system. This is required to execute the JCL job. If none are set, z/OS only searches public libraries.
  • ISPF library: Specifies the path where DMXCDC ISPF libraries are installed.

DB2 for z/OS for mainframe replication

DB2 for z/OS, when used as the target for mainframe replication, acts as the receiving database for real-time data from the source system. To configure DB2 for z/OS as target for mainframe replication pipeline, the following fields need to be configured:
  • Connection: Specifies the name of data connection.
  • Description: Allows you to describe the purpose of this data connection.
To configure the connection specifically for mainframe replication, select the option 'Mainframe replication'.
  • Continuous replication engine: Specifies the continuous replication engine to determine how data is continuously replicated from the source to the target system.
  • Add Engine: Opens the Add runtime engine window.
Note: Only continuous replication engine can be configured. When a new replication engine is added, it appears as the default option from the dropdown menu.
  • Mainframe replication engine: Specifies the mainframe replication engine to define how data from mainframe systems is replicated to the target environment, ensuring synchronization and consistency.
Note: The mainframe replication engine handles only mainframe replication. You also need a continuous replication engine for testing connections and cataloging.
  • Add Engine: Opens the Add runtime engine window.
    Note:
    • Only mainframe replication engine can be configured.
